James V. Pellicane, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Pellicane received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1988 and completed a 6-year General Surgery internship and residency at the Medical College of Virginia. He is certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is an active member of The American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Pellicane opened the Virginia Breast Center with his partner Dr. Polly Stephens in September of 2005, the areas first and only Breast-only surgical practice. Dr. Pellicane has committed his career to the care of women with benign and malignant breast disease and strives to continually provide the highest level and most cutting edge breast care available. He has been performing breast ultrasound and stereotactic biopsies in his office since 1998 and has been committed to performing same day biopsies since the opening of Virginia Breast Center, all in an effort to reduce the already high anxiety levels in patients with breast abnormalities. He is on the faculty of several breast care companies where he is able to work through industry to continue to improve breast care. Currently, with Rubicor Medical he is one of a few physicians in the country who are studying the feasibility of image guided minimal access lumpectomy for breast cancer, one of the first studies of its kind.

Polly L. Stephens, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Polly L. Stephens, M.D. received her medical degree from Tulane University in 1993. She completed a 5-year General Surgery residency at Waterbury Hospital Health Center, in Waterbury, Connecticut, an affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine. She is certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and in Advanced Trauma Life Support. Dr. Stephens has served as the vice chair of the Department of Surgery at Henrico Doctors' Hospital and on a number of committees including the Invasive Procedures, Credentials, and Cancer committees.
